Nijut Babu Aasoni Scheme for HS Students – Key Announcement
On 6th August 2026, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major expansion of the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni scheme at a programme held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. In a significant policy shift, the scheme now covers Higher Secondary (HS) male students for the first time.
The Nijut Babu scheme, which supported 50,000 boys last year, will be expanded to cover an additional 70,000 students this year, taking the total number of beneficiaries to 1.2 lakh. Under both Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes, students enrolled in higher secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate courses will receive financial assistance from the state government.
The Chief Minister also announced that discollegiate and non-collegiate students would no longer be eligible under the scheme.

Financial Assistance – How Much Will HS Students Get?
Under the expanded Nijut Babu Aasoni scheme, the revised monthly financial assistance is as follows:

- Beneficiaries of Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award – students availing the scooter scheme
- Jibon Prerana Scheme beneficiaries – PG students receiving benefits under CM's Jibon Prerana Scheme
- Students in private institutions – self-financed or distance education courses
- Students from families with annual income above ₹4 lakh
- Students who have already completed their course
Application Process – How to Apply for Nijut Babu Aasoni 2026
The application process for Nijut Babu Aasoni 2026 was launched on 6th August 2026 by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Application forms are being distributed across 452 educational institutions throughout Assam, with around 7 lakh students expected to benefit from the flagship welfare initiatives.
- Visit your school / college and meet the Principal or designated Nodal Teacher
- Collect the Nijut Babu Aasoni application form free of cost
- Fill the application form with personal, academic, and bank account details
- Attach self-attested copies of required documents (Aadhaar card, income certificate, admission proof, bank passbook)
- Submit the filled application form to your institution's administrative office
- The institution will verify your details and process the application
- Financial assistance will be transferred directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account through DBT

Attendance & Discipline Requirements
Beneficiaries must maintain regular attendance and academic discipline:
- At least 70% attendance in the previous academic year
- Adhere to institutional rules and conduct
